About this - my usual working kernel is 2.6.x (currently 2.6.10), does 
it require libusb too? AFAIK, it doesn't...

That seems to be true, after checking everything again with PLD LiveCD - 
the same kernel and SANE versions, both with OHCI loaded, just on 
different hardware - and it doesn't work on my computer at all, while 
working well on the old one.
Could that be a fautl of the USB controller build into nForce2? If so, 
I'll try with USB controller on an PCI card, those are (hopefully) 
completely independent of mainboard's controller. And quite cheap, so 
I'm currenty able to buy one.
If that helps, maybe you could put that into SANE FAQ - mysterious I/O 
errors may be caused by faulty nForce.
Still, other devices are working - but I assume no one of them is using 
bulk data transfer so much and thus they work.

BTW, is it possoble to get a full overview of the data transfer on an 
USB port? Something like ethreal for Ethernet controllers, but attached 
to USB device... Maybe this would give me a clue of what *exactly* 
fails, if I compare output of a normal, working scan process with a 
faulty one.
