Sorry.  I used an old bookmark:
  http://sane.alioth.debian.org/sane-mfgs.html

where the scanner doesn't appear.  Hence my questions.

By "choice", I meant I'd rather choose a scanner which uses the "epson"
backend, because it provides complete functionality.
Am I right in this?  [I.e. are there some "quality" differences between
the EPSON hardwares which use one or the other backend?]
