[sane-devel] Nikon LS-1000 fails with sane-backends-1.0.15

Help!!!

I recently dusted off my old Nikon LS-1000 SCSI negative/slide scanner
and tried to scan in some negatives with xscan.

After the scan, I get this message:

"Backend sends more image data than it defined in parameters"

and the scan is faulty - it has stripes parallel to the short dimension of
the negative.

The same thing happens with scanimage so I suspect the backend.

I think the SCSI interface and driver are OK because another scanner on
the same bus (an Astra-610S) works fine. Or perhaps the dear old LS-1000
has finally bit the dust!! I tried cycling the power but the problem
persists.

Versions are:

media-gfx/sane-backends-1.0.15
media-gfx/xsane-0.97
linux-2.6.13-gentoo-r5

There's nothing interesting in /var/log/syslog.

I also ran with SANE_DEBUG_COOLSCAN=128 but nothing terribly interesting
apart from this at the end:

Any help to get this running again would be most welcome ...

Thanks
