ok, on second glance,

1. the licensing is too confusing: it appears that the package has two
copies of the gpl, a single copy of brother license, and a copy of the
LGPL inside, and the download screen requires you to agree to the
brother license, which has limitations on binary distribution of
derivative works, with some mention of the LGPL?

2. it also contains some binary-only .so files: this makes it
impossible to run on platforms other than linux/intel?

i dont see this getting into sane without some clarification and
reverse engineering...
