[sane-devel] scanimage, 4800 dpi on the Epson 4490?

Hello,

As far as I can tell this is a FAQ, except that I've seen
the question pop up in many places (including, for example,
the Avasys forums), but without any answers.

I'm running Fedora Core 4, and have sane-backends 1.0.17-0 installed,
as well as iscan 2.8.0-1. My scanner is an Epson Perfection 4490.
This setup works, _except_ I cannot scan at 4800 dpi!

scanimage --help -d epkowa gives:
    --resolution 300|600|1200|2400dpi [300]

However, with the Vuescan program under Linux (www.hamrick.com), and also
with the Epson scanning software under Windows I can scan at 4800 dpi.

Does anyone know the reason why scanimage cannot go beyond 2400?
Anyone have a fix?
