the hp 6200 and 6300 are some ancient, flaky, usb 1.0 hardware. they
might be the only machine i've heard of that needs more than 30
seconds to do anything. changing the default because of those scanners
is not an option.

i think it would be useful to have the env var that matches the one
for scsi, and it would be nice if Joe Random Linux Noob that owns a
62/6300 did not have to set it, because the backend already knew, so
do both.
