ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ATTRS{idProduct}=="01ce",
ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

worked for me in Ubuntu Karmic (after installing the drivers from brother's
website, http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/download_scn.html )
