Hi everyone,

I'm new to this list so please forgive me if my post is inappropriate or has
already been answered a multitude of times.

I would like to know if there is anyone around actively working on getting
the Canoscan 4200f within the supported models of sane?
Is anyone aware of any working solutions under Linux (ubuntu)
I took a few tentative steps to look into the back end support. It is
Identified by "sane-find-scanner"

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9, product=0x221b, chip=GL841?) at
libusb:001:008

<Couldn't determine the type of the USB chip (result from sane-backends
1.0.21)>

but not listed using "scanimage -L"

no scanner found
Quite a bit is already know of the scanner:
http://www.sane-project.org/unsupported/canon-4200f.html

I also installed usbsnoop on my sons windows box and was successful in
getting a 600mb log file for two commands to the scanner (preview and scan).
It sure looks like the snooper is working but without usb protocol
knowledge, its quite worthless information for me. Can anyone help me get
started to condense the log file and identify the relevant parts for
analysis? I would also need to know which commands need to be logged in the
backend build process.

In short, is there a experienced sane back end developer that would have the
time and energy to work with me to get the scanner working under sane? I am
willing and capable to give timely feedback on the interactions of the
windows driver as well as testing and debugging in Linux. Left alone, I fear
I will not take on the challenge to become a sane backend developer :s

br
Ville
