Hi Wilfred,
Could you try with the firewall completely disabled? It
looks as if the scanner does not react at all OR traffic is blocked by
the firewall.

Adding the scanner in the pixma.conf file should not be necessary as the back-end should auto-detect the scanner (provided the scanner is on the same subnet as the computer). If the backend does not do that, the firewall is a likely source of the problems too.

If it fails even with the firewall disabled, please do a Wireshark capture of the traffic (port 8610 only)
In any case, put the scanner in network mode as Troels described. This seems to be required for MFNP devices, but not for inkjet/ BJNP protocol devices.
