xerox_mfp.conf from 1.0.25 does not work,
but the proprietary driver from Xerox does.
(Technical details below.)

Of course I would prefer a Free Software solution,
which would make this support long lasting and more cross plattform,
so questions still open:

As I have working driver now, I could use usbmon and wireshark
to examine the protocol for interoperability purposes
(that can be assumed are in the interest of Xerox)
If someone is interested in working on the driver
and would want me to check something, send me an email.

We could list it as unsupported by sane, but supported by third party.
I have not done much testing, but it would help potential users.

Best,
Bernhard

 *I've downloaded
http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-3225/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=linux&fileLanguage=en_GB
and unpacked it.
Filename Xerox_WorkCentre_3225_Linux-Driver.tar.gz
Version 1.00.25:00.05
Date Oct 15, 2014

Description: Linux Driver for WorkCentre 3225 supports: Ubuntu 10.04 - 13.04,
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, Fedora 11 - 19, Debian 5.0 - 7.1, Mint 13 -
15, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10, 11, openSUSE 11.0 - 12.3

* On OpenSuse 13.1 with the updated sane-backends 1.0.25 (probably works with
the original 1.0.23 as well, make sure to plug it into an USB 2 port).

* I've copied uld/x86_64/libsane-smfp.so.1.0.1 to where the other libsanes
are.
** Ran ldconfig on that directory.
** Enabled only "smfp" in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf
** scanimage -L and sane-fand-scanner as root work now. (The yast does not
fully parse its output, so the yast2 scanner config has four lines, but I
ignored that.)
** had to put users in group "lp".
