I'm a Newbie here. I'm using LinuxMint 5 based on Ubuntu Hardy.<br>

My scanner is Microtek Phantom 336 CX, with only parallel port
connection. Near-equivalents listed as supported are: <br>
Phantom 330 CX and Phantom 636 CX, both Parport and marked "Complete"
and "Microtek2 (unmaintained)". <br>
The list also reports the Scanmaker 336 CX and says "Seems to be
similar to the Microtek 330 CX and is detected by the microtek2
backend. Scanning doesn't seem to work however". That was dated
22007.01.28 so I hoped there may have been some progress since then. <br>
My scanner is not found. <br>
In spite of using the -p option with § sudo sane-find-scanner it still
reports <br>
"Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary
ports can't be detected by this program". <br>
<br>
I also have a Minolta Dimage Dual I slide scanner - this too is not
found when connected to the parallel port instead of the Microtek. When
I used them with Windows 98 they were "daisy-chained". <br>
<br>
The Sane document "Scanner Howto" at 2.8 says I should see:<br>
"Mar 3 08:00:25 K7 kernel: parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778)
[PCSPP,TRISTATE]<br>
Mar 3 08:00:25 K7 kernel: parport0: irq 7 detected" <br>
among the output of § dmesg | less <br>
I don't. How do I get it to appear there? I'm not a developer. <br>

However, among that output (with the Minolta slide scanner connected) I
do see: <br>

[ 62.652944] parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778), irq 7, dma 3
[PCSPP,TRISTATE,COMPAT,EPP,ECP,DMA]<br>

My printer is USB-connected and is working with a CUPS driver. <br>
<br>
I shall be grateful for help and advice. <br>
