I am not sure it is the same with the 5590, but with fujitsu backend, I had the same problem. The solution was to maintain two internal lists of maximum scan sizes, and switch them when the user changes between ADF and flatbed.<br>

I am scanning Mexican legal size, which is 8.50 x 13.25 inches. (U.S. legal is 8.50 x 14 inches - don't ask me why the difference). Both legal sizes have worked with Windows XP and the HP driver.<br>
