More ideas on a plugin manager:

* Make it in collaboration with freedesktop.org
* Provide a GUI and/or integration with desktop configuration systems
* Develop a mechanism to find available plugins for installed packages from
the Debian archive, e.g. plugin packages should have debtags indicating that
they are a plugin for another package
* Integrate with package-kit so that the user can install plugins without
becoming root, directly from the plugin configuration GUI
* The system must be backwards compatible. Users that installed a plugin
package before expect it to be directly activated
* The system could provide means to configure which kind of plugins are
automatically available for all users and which must be activated by users

* packages that have a plugin system and could benefit from this (axi-cache
search role::plugin)
 * shells: zsh, gnome shell
 * editors: vim, emacs, jedit, gedit
 * programming environments: eclipse, geany, scratch, kdesdk/kdevelop
 * awesome (window manager)
 * browsers: chrome, iceweasel (firefox), epiphany
 * mail user agents: icedove (thunderbird), claws, mutt, evolution
 * media players: gnome music player, banshee, totem, rhythmbox
 * instant messengers: pidgin, psi, xchat
 * file browsers: nautilus, konqueror, thunar
 * akonadi
 * audacious
 * gimp
 * compiz
 * image viewers: eog (eye of gnome)
 * GNU Krell Monitors gkrellm
 * libreoffice
