Thinking twice about it:  What about if you *exactly* reimplement the
mbox structure (I mean regarding directory layout and file naming
scheme) of the official (hidden) mailing list archive.  This has two
really great advantages:

  - You do not need to change the code once / if we get the official
    archives
  - We could simply publish these mboxes ourselves instead of listmaster
    and make other people (like SPAM fighters) happy

I *really* like this idea.
