Good question. We've requested patches in past years, but this time our
application was rather frantic, and most of the tiny community is busy
with real life. AFAIK there's no requirement to submit a patch, but you
are certainly welcome to do so for bonus points!
name is Jerome Portal, a computer science student from France.

I
looked at your ideas list and would like to work in GSoC with Tux4kids,
more precisely I'm interested in 3 projects :
- Migrate Tux Math and t4k_common to SDL 2.0
- Adapt Tux Typing to
use the t4k_common library
- Create a LAN multiplayer mode for Tux
Typing

I have programmed in C since several years, with the use
of graphic libraries like SDL/WxWidget (with various scholar projects
such as a little drawing program and an image viewer/hider). I played
with Git for some collaborative projects, and have a little experience
of Cmake and Autotools build systems.
I'm also used to network programming and sockets as I had to develop a
DNS resolver, a little HTTP client, and a packet sniffer ("libpcap
inside").

I saw that some knowledge of C++ is required ; though I
can program in C++, I'm basically a C enthusiast.

So to get started I cloned the git source and built
tuxtype/tuxmath/t4k_common ; for now I'm browsing the code, and trying
to understand it to be able to do something for the several FIXME
comments I read.

Anyway, are there some tests for the students ? Many organizations
require the students to submit a patch or something else, but it seems
there nothing like that here.

Thank you for reading !

Regards,
Jerome
