[Tux4kids-tuxtype-dev] Current versions of Tux Math and Tux Typing now in Macports

Hello all,

Both tuxmath-1.7.1 and tuxtype-1.7.3 have been added to macports.
AFAICT, both programs work properly, at least on our OSX 10.5
Intel-based iMac. For the first time, we have functioning Mac
versions that utilize SDL_Pango. It should be very little work from
now on to keep the portfiles updated with each of our new releases.

I can post dmg files (with dependencies) on SourceForge, but they are
too big for the Alioth 10 MB size limit. The dmg files come with a
professional-looking installer program that installs the bundle into
an appropriate location, rather than just running from within the disk
image itself.

For most Mac users, I would highly suggest installing Macports itself,
rather than individual app dmgs. Once Macports is installed (and it
comes in its own simple dmg), you have almost effortless access to not
only tuxtype and tuxmath, but about 5,000 other FLOSS apps and
libraries. It is very comparable to GNU/Linux package management
(apt, yum, and so forth) or the FreeBSD ports collection.

On a somewhat analogous note, the OpenSuse Build Service
(http://build.opensuse.org) also has quite current versions of both of
our programs, and is set up to automatically build i386 and x68-64
rpms for opensuse, Fedora, and Mandriva. All of them are available
except tuxmath has not yet built successfully for Mandriva.

Cheers,

David Bruce
