The Parsha for this week is called 'Tzav' -- Command. It is a unique word. The Sages offer the following explanation. "Up to now, commandments regarding the offerings were introduced with 'Amarta' (say) or 'Debor' (speak). The more emphatic term 'Tzav' (command), implies that the Kohanim are being urged to be especially zealous in performing this service, and that this exhortation must be repeated constantly to future generations." Rabbi Benyamin Kahane Z”L the son of Rabbi Meir Kahane Z”L (may G-d avenge their blood) offered a deep explanation on this parsha.

"At the beginning of Parsha Tzav, it says (6:6): "A fire continually shall be kept burning upon the altar, it should not go out". The Ramban comments, "it is a mitzvah for the Kohanim to maintain the fire." On this simple mitzvah, where the Kohanim are commanded to light the fire themselves on the altar, there is a grand concept to be learned. In the verse at the beginning of the Book of Vayikra, "the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar", Rashi says: "Even though the fire descended from Heaven, it is a mitzvah to bring fire from an ordinary source."

And the question which arises is: If the fire comes down from the Heavens and is on the altar anyway, why are the Kohanim commanded to put the fire there themselves; and if the Kohanim are commanded to bring the fire by themselves, why does G-d have to make a miracle where fire comes down from Heaven?

Here we hit upon a basic principle that applies to the Temple, and to all other facets of Judaism as well. Actually, the Temple is the most lofty of concepts. After all, it is the place where the Divine Presence rests. Consequently, it might be expected that the Holy Temple is a matter reserved exclusively for G-d to deal with. On the other hand, if this were so, why would there be a need for a tangible House of G-d on the ground in the first place? Clearly, the entire purpose of this special place is so that man will have a place to connect himself to the Almighty, to serve G-d, and atone for his sins. And so it might seem proper that all matters concerning the Temple should be brought about by the actions of man. How do we resolve these conflicting concepts?

The secret is in the above Rashi explanation: "Even though the fire descended from Heaven, it is a mitzvah to bring fire from an ordinary source." The sages tell us that it is true that the fire comes from the Heavens, as it should be expected from G-d's abode. But since G-d intended the House to be for the purpose of man - so that man can connect his deeds to his Creator - He demands that we bring the fire by ourselves, despite the fact that He does not need it."

The leader of the Likud Party in Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has often said, that 'today is 1938'. The Jewish People today, must deal with the worldwide rise of Jew Hatred. Last week, the US State Department released a report on worldwide attacks on the Jewish People. The report linked anti-Israel activities with major attacks against the Jewish People. In order to defend ourselves from these attacks, we must be stronger Jews, both physically and spiritually. If our connection to what it means to be a Jew is weak, then our resolve to defend ourselves will also be weak. And that is why we must have strong leadership that has a strong Jewish Identity. Examples of weak leadership are as follows:

In Israel, the left wing Meretz Party picked Chaim Oron as their new leader. The tall, lanky Oron and founding member of Peace Now, has been known since his teen years in the Hashomer Hatza'ir, a Zionist-socialist youth movement, by the nickname "Jumas," which is Arabic for "sycamore tree." Born in 1940 in Ramat Gan, he moved to the Negev at the age of 18 to help build Kibbutz Lahav, where he still lives in a community whose farms are known as Israel's largest breeders of pigs. And the PM Ehud Olmert has invited Chaim Oron to join the coalition.

Also in Israel, a group called the “Association of Civil Rights in Israel” has petitioned the Supreme Court in Israel to change Airport security, claiming that Arabs face discrimination. It is the New Israel Fund that provides the funding to this group. Israeli Airport Security Challenged.

These are just two small examples of weak leadership. A recent poll taken in Israel reported that the majority of Arabs support the terror attack at the Merkaz Harov Yeshiva, (click here) '84% of Palestinians back Mercaz attack'. Mamoad Abbas the leader of the Palestinian Authority has drafted a 'master plan' to destroy the Jewish State on it's 60th anniversary (click here) Exclusive: Abbas' master-plan to swamp Israel’s 60th anniversary with 3 million Palestinians on its borders .

We must be ready for these assaults. It is for this reason that the Jewish Defence League is proud to host Moshe Feiglin in Toronto on Thursday, March 27, at Shaarei Teffillah Congregation. Anti - Israel groups have taken notice of this event. We are determined to change the Jewish posture from timid to confident. There will be three events for Moshe Feiglin that day:

· Meeting with Jewish Students on campus. Call the office for more information.

· Dinner at 5:30 P.M. at Sharrei Teffilah Synagogue ($180 per person)

· Community address at 8:00 P.M. (no charge)

For tickets, reservations and information call 905-474-0555.

The message in this parsha is not to sit on the sidelines and wait. The Torah demands that we be active Jews. The survival of our people is at stake. Come out on Thursday March 27 and be part of a Jewish movement for change.

With Love of Israel,

Meir Weinstein, National Director Jewish Defence League of Canada
