The following runs yaird without actually generating an image:

  # yaird --debug --test 2.6.18-3-powerpc

And this one produces an image while spitting out debug info too:

  # yaird --output /some/destination --test 2.6.18-3-powerpc

(replace with your kernel of choice)

I am struggling with disk access being unreliable on recent 2.6.18
subversions myself. I am pretty sure it was stable with the early
releases (I am only talking about official Debian builds) but now both
internal PATA drive on my laptop (1st generation 15" G4 albook) and an
external firewire disk randomly has "write errors" remounting as
read-only. The disks seems to work fine using older kernels.

Oh, well. Might be the internal disk indeed getting unreliable, and the
external one is hurt by firewire generally unreliable in 2.6.18 (seems a
lot of work has been done for 2.6.20).

Good luck with your server!

Kind regards,

 - Jonas
