I just installed initramfs-tools and ran a 'reinstall' on one of my 
linux-images. The result was that the new initrd is now 6194229 bytes 
instead of 1328688, so no, I don't want to use initramfs-tools. Of 
course, if yaird is dying I probably won't have a choice ...
