    I'm NOT shipping the static library
    
    These generally aren't useful, but here it could actually be harmful. The reason
    is that this library exports too many generic symbols. I'm patching this out,
    but the patch only fixes the shared object. If/when this is fixed upstream, I
    may ship the static library again
