I'm pretty sure that the issue is in the lz4 compression library
rather then in pytables.

pytables 3.1.1-1 has been built successfully using
liblz4-1_0.0~r114-2_s390x [1] while pytables 3.1.1-2, the one that
fails, has ben built using liblz4-1_0.0~r119-2_s390x [2].

In the last release of the lz4 package (lz4_0.0~r119-2) tests have
been disabled on s390x and sparc so my clue is that there is actually
a problem with liblz4 on s380x.

I tried to contact the maintainer of lz4 but I still had no reply
(vacations probably).

IMO the only thing I can do on my part is to disable tests using the
lz4 compressor on s390x but this is not a real solution.

Probably this bug should be re-assigned to liblz4.
