Package: parted
Version: 2.2-5
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: 447755 at bugs.debian.org

Currently, parted has no support for CMS-formatted disks on the
s390 architecture, though this format *is* supported by the Linux
kernel. This bug report is a "wishlist" bug report (i.e. an
enhancement request) to request support for CMS-formatted disks.
Although I am not a C programmer, thanks to some help from friends
I have been able to come up with some patches which I have applied
locally. It seems to work fine. There are a total of four patch
files. All of these are designed to be applied to parted 2.2-5.

The first patch file applies to include/parted/vtoc.h and is
located here: http://www.wowway.com/~zlinuxman/parted/vtoc.h.diff.
The second patch file applies to libparted/labels/fdasd.c and is
located here: http://www.wowway.com/~zlinuxman/parted/fdasd.c.diff.
The third patch file applies to libparted/labels/dasd.c and is
located here: http://www.wowway.com/~zlinuxman/parted/dasd.c.diff.
The fourth patch file applies to debian/changelog and is
located here: http://www.wowway.com/~zlinuxman/parted/changelog.diff.
I made the version in the changelog 2.2-5a for my own local testing
purposes. That will obviously need to be changed for the real
production changelog.

Please submit these changes upstream and try to get them accepted.
These changes are of particular interest to the Debian installer
team for the s390 port. They will in all probability allow the
Debian installer to support installation to CMS disks, which is
a long-standing enhancement request.
