You still need someone to actually upload it to Debian. It doesn't do
much good if I have a current profile in GitHub somewhere and
Debian/Ubuntu fail to pick it up.

I'll be happy to attach it; just let this thread know the new bug
number.

Before that, however, you may want to bring this up on a Debian mailing
list, to get a feel for things.
