I am puzzled by your request.  How does hardcoding the installation into
/usr/lib32/sasl2 affect the package on 32-bit architectures?  Another
possibility to consider is this suggestion from the upstream
Makefile.am:

        echo "* If you don't want to do this for some reason, you can"; \   
        echo "* set the location where the library will look for plugins"; \
        echo "* by setting the environment variable SASL_PATH to the path"; \ 
        echo "* the library should use.";

Perhaps we can set SASL_PATH in a wrapper for 32-bit apps on 64-bit
architectures.  In any event, I am inclined to think that your patch
will not work in all cases.  What are your thoughts?
