Doing so.

Clamav maintainers, #426117 is about exim complaining about
unavailable clamav-socket once in a while. Since these error messages
seem to coincede with clamav-daemon receiving a pattern update, I
suspect that clamav-daemon removes its socket, reloads its databases
(which takes several minutes) and re-creates the socket afterwards.

clamav-daemon should probably reload the databases in a dedicated
thread so that it can still scan data (maybe with the old databases?)
while it is reloading.

It seems natural to implement this in clamd itself instead of adapting
all applications that might use clamd to cope with a temporarily
unavailable clamd socket.

Greetings
Marc
