  So, it looks it is a Sun java6 bug rather than a freecol one, then.
We'll need more information for a bug report there to be of any use:

  * what is your graphics card/driver ?
  * does freecol complain about anything when run from the terminal ?
  * do you see the problem with sun's java 5  ? (freecol does not run
with it, but worldwind does; the simplest way to try is probably to
uninstall sun java 6 and freecol)
