look into that at some point..

No worries with your package, I remember asking the release team for 
last minute changes in my first packages as well. I will open a MR with 
the change. Enjoy your vacation!

Just to be sure, note that Ogre 1.12.12 has a new Soversion so you need 
to change the package name and do a library transition (once bullseye is 
released). Please upload new versions only to experimental for now.

I agree that library that change the Soname with every release don't 
sound like the best idea. Normally lintian should warn you if library 
and package name don't match, but that's disabled for ogre-1.12. Maybe 
it makes sense to add some documentation to d/Readme.source or tests in 
d/rules so you don't forget next time.
