A workaround for the meantime (besides installing the old package, e.g.
from snapshot.debian.org) is setting the default x-session-manager to
gnome-session "the debian way":
# update-alternatives --config x-session-manager
(type in "1", probably and you get rid of KDE. :-)).
This does not solve the problem of the ignored Sessions, of course --
which is also nasty e.g. in case somebody modified /etc/gdm/Sessions/Gnome.
(For example 'export LC_CTYPE="de_DE@euro"' enables typing german
umlauts in terminals... I don't know if this is the most elegant way to
achieve this but it worked for me.)
