 snd_intel8x0m is for modems, I suppose it provide the modem speaker to
 the OS, but it might also permit I/O, I have no idea.

 Please try to read files with the "playbin" GStreamer element and this
 module loaded:
    % gst-launch playbin uri=file:///home/piem/some_video.ogg

 You can try to set the GStreamer 0.8 audiosink and videosink to
 "fakesink" via gconf-editor under /system/gstreamer/0.8/.

 If using the fakesink audiosink avoids the problem, please try with
 osssink and alsasink.
