Run gstreamer-properties.
Select alsa as the sound source
Click test
I get echos for about 3 seconds, then nothing.  clicking cancel and the
program stops responding.  A few times the program recovered after a few
minutes, other times it just sat there until I killed it.

Sound sink test works fine.
