Bug#403976: No cards in the gnome-games card games

Version:  1:2.16.1.1-1

Freecell and blackjack seem to be missing the cards. 
I just upgraded gnome from stable to testing and
neither games shows any cards.  Freecell doesn't deal
when
'New' is pressed and Blackjack doesn't show any cards
at all either.

I traced the blackjack game with 'strace -f -e
trace=file
-o blackjack.trace blackjack' and include the trace
here.

I noticed many errors on the xterm:

and

I have attached the terminal info as
blackjack.trace.console.data.

As this bug renders the card games broken and useless,
I ask that it be assigned a high severity.
