Epiphany displays a page containing garbled text on certain BTS pages; I
noticed the problem on
<http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=267799>. The
corruption appears on ~4 out of 5 page reloads, in a different place each
time, but always in an area involving non-ASCII characters.
The BTS administrator suggested that it's a problem with the browser;
the page is served as UTF-8, however the characters that trigger the
problem are not encoded in UTF-8 ("Basically, that mail message has a
invalid content-type, so the bts assumes that it is valid utf-8 and doesn't
bother to do anything to it. It's most likely iso8859-1 instead.").
While the BTS should perhaps convert anything with an invalid
content-type into plain ASCII before presenting it as UTF-8, displaying it,
the browser should still handle this more gracefully. :)
I'm attaching a screenshot of the corruption. Note that it doesn't just
bungle the display of the characters in question: there is some random HTML
code in there, and even a couple of checkboxes, so it's possible that the
contents of other tabs, or previously viewed pages are leaking in. The first
time I triggered the bug, a followup for a different bug (from 2006) was
inserted into the page for #267799 (from 2004)!
Finally, I can't reproduce the problem with Firefox.
