Norbert,
objdump -tT /usr/lib/libkpathsea.so.6 | grep kpse_cnf_get
indeed does not list kpse_cnf_get for libkpathsea6_2012.20120516-1.
It looks like
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=673016
hasn't been fixed properly.

Would you please have another look to see what's going wrong with
libkpathsea6.
