During an attempt to install a second X display manager, a question is asked 
during the inatall for which of the display managers is to be used to /avoid/ 
a conflict.  That's why there aren't complaints about gdm3 conflicting with 
kdm, xdm, wdm, etc -- if it did, there would be.
