This is on a laptop with current wheezy versions of everything.

software-center still depends on aptdaemon, so this would still require
the workaround of "GNOME wheezy users should remove software-center". Is
that intended? Is software-center/wheezy considered to be obsolete?

(I already removed update-manager-gnome during the upgrade.)

This happens during "normal use" (web browsing, email) - no manual apt
operations.
