Bug#744152: gdm3 doesn't display anything at all anymore

Yesterday it was fine when I logged in, but after logging out,
the screen kept black on vt 7 and above. I rebooted the machine
today in the morning, and this time only a part of the gdm3
screen could be displayed, but there was no way to log in.

startx works fine.

Note: I'm using fvwm as the window manager (no GNOME desktop).
