Package: gnome-session
Version: 3.8.4-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

upgrade gnome-session from 3.8.4-3 to 3.8.4-4

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

try to shutdown the system with the gnome menu

   * What was the outcome of this action?

hang the system

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

system shutdown

I have see that the 3.8.4-4 version fix the #735454 bug, I think this patch let you use systemd with gnome. If you don't have this package installed you don't have nothing that install it (missing dependency).

$ dpkg -l systemd-sysv
[...]
+++-==============-============-============-=================================
un  systemd-sysv   <nessuna>    <none>       (nessuna descrizione disponibile)

you can solve this problem installing systemd-sysv by hand... but if a package try to remove it this problem pop up again.

Ciao
Davide
