Indeed, version 1.70.0-1+b1 had already been installed on the system.

I checked the apt logs and it seems this version was pulled into my system only
today and may have not been available at the time of writing the report.

Now the system seems to work again. I agree with Simon. If possibe we should
avoid such breakages (even in Sid).
