In general, I would say that it is not a package's fault: you can come up with 
many different ways to have very weird build environments, and I would go 
crazy trying to support them all.
However, as this seems to be part of repro-build (which I do care about), you 
can find a patch here that should fix it. Let me know if it works.
If so, I will adapt something similar to libuv1 too and send both to upstream.

Isn't this an incredibly bad practice?
