Martin, thanks for the tip. I tried it before reading your post, but I wouldn't call it absolute success. However, I managed to bring back my mails.

I deleted the index files, fired up Kmail, but refused to give neither Kwallet's master password, nor the IMAP account's password. It rebuilt the index, all of my old mail was there, as well as the 8 new messages from a previous session. I could make a copy about the whole folder - just for testing purposes, of course I made a complete backup before. As soon as I reconnected to the IMAP server, Kmail synchronised the local folder to the remote mailbox and deleted all of the old mails again. :( I ended up with the 8 new messages I got this morning.

I hope this description help a bit. :)
