I spoke with upstream and they indicated that the problem was resolved
in upstream version 1.6 (see upstream bug 138, linked above).

If you still see this behavior with enigmail 1.6, please follow up here
so we can try to get it addressed.

Would a backport of 1.6 to wheezy be useful for you, now that icedove 17
is in wheezy-security?
