I have concerns regarding the switch.
XBMC ships its own (fork of) libdvdnav, too, but I think I have
recently convinced
them to try to upstream some of their contributions to libdvdnav [1]
and I fail to
immediately see why VLC couldn't do so.

I would prefer not switching unless current upstream refuses to accept patches.
