Not really.  I proposed to only do it for (1) unknown protocols where
(2) the file exist.  Both need to be true for my proposal to make sense.
I assume hw: is a known protocol.  If it isn't, I fail to understand how
hw:0 can work. :)

Well, for me a better error message would have helped, if it had
suggested to use file:.  I doubt better documentation would have made me
less surprised.
