Well, Dirk's arguments are also sound.  Niels, could you please comment
on the above? 

I realize that the settings in 50octave.el suits me, because these are my
preferred defaults.  I am afraid we are arguing about personal tastes
here.  Does the Policy or the Developers Reference say something about
this issue?
