actually the owncloud packages itself aren't the problem: The problem
is the wide range of (build-)dependencies, which is also raising from
release to release. Maintaining the owncloud backport in
wheezy-backports implies uploading and maintaining those packages also
there for the next 3 years. There may be the situation in the future,
where it is not possible to backport one of those packages for one or
another reason (for example build-deps could not be solved [anymore]).
Been there, done that ...

As one man show (without deeper knowledge of the owncloud packaging),
it is not possible to maintain all those packages proper in an
official Debian repository for me. I don't like the idea, that I'm not
able to provide recent packages (keep in mind the build-deps) and
users sitting on buggy/unsecure software. This is the main reason just
providing them in my own repository.

Actually the most problematic packages from my POV are:

nodejs (pulled by node-uglify)
pkg-php-tools (pulled as build-dep by some php-* dependencies)
