I've found the root cause: the URL sent to madison use '+' as a separator 
between package names. So madison did search for packages 'g', '' and '-
multilib' :-(

When the package name is munged through uri_escape before creating the URL, 
madison replies as expected (trick reused from /usr/bin/rmadison)

I'll upload the fixed package soon.
