I've usually wanted to remove wrong bits like build-only deps or
occasional w32-ism, if something to massage deps instead of replacing
might be more to the liking of others.

Actually I thought "Manually specify the string to be used" was fairly
clear. :-)  So yes that wording could be fixed either way.
