Actually I'm even more interested in getting the previous patch
(which adds support for 5.24.1) in.

True; but this broken (as in: not building) package then reminds us
to add a patch to fix the broken (as in: not supporting the current
perl) package. -- The check alone wouldn't make a lot of sense, quite
to the contrary.

It does to me, as it makes it clear this the safeguard only has an
effect in combination with adding patches to support the current
perl, similar to what we're doing in libperl-apireference-perl
already. In case we decide that we don't want this then the check is
also useless or even detrimental.
