OK.

I'm not sure pulseaudio can do anything about this. Do you get the
hangs if (after boot) you don't login to your desktop, or just log
into a terminal so that pulseaudio doesn't get started? Maybe pulse is
exercising some function of the driver that is not well tested.

Or maybe the hardware became defective, can you try the usb card in
another computer?
