Of course it will not perish in the archive. :)
I think we will be glad to have you on board.  I've added you to the
team on alioth.  Note that it will take some time for these permissions
to synchronise with costa (svn.debian.org).  Please read the relevant
parts of the website for adding the package to our repository.  I also
think the package needs some tweaks, but that is for later.  Welcome to
the team!
